If you're worried for space or cost or whatever, Save flac for those albums or songs where you want to hear nuance in the singers vocals, the cymbals crash, the mulitiple beats of the bass drum that you only thought was one beat from your mp3. Streaming is good enough for casual listening. As said before, it's usually good enough. But that doesn't mean that mp3 is bad, or even not good enough. No matter what people want to say, you will almost always get more depth in your listening experience when you're listening to flac vs mp3, and that difference would be even more pronounced if you had higher end listening gear. Colors that were more muted in the version you're used to pop so much more. Parts of scenes happening at the edge of the screen that you have never been seen before. You go and watch it - And you're absolutely floored by all of the minute details that you never noticed before. You hear that there is going to be a screening at your local theater for a remastered version of this movie, where the colors are more accurate to the original colors that were filmed. You love it, it's great, and you fully enjoy the movie, even knowing full well that you're missing out on some parts of it due to the different formats. Also assume you are a fan of a certain movie filmed in widescreen, watch it multiple times a year, but have only seen it on your tube tv in it's formatted ratio. Most tv's were tube tv's with 4:3 screen ratios. Imagine 20 years ago, before big screen tv's really made it into most living rooms.
Honestly, none of that matters too much when talking about the difference between mp3 and flac. Most people like to make arguments about bit rates, hertz, listening gear, etc. And you will most likely love to hear it! You WILL notice little nuances and details that you have never heard before.
However, if there is a band that you love and you have rarely listened to any of their music in any format other than mp3, you will, without question, notice the added depth and clarity that flac provides, regardless of your listening gear (unless they were super cheap earbuds, maybe).
Most people don't care, and you probably won't either, as it's not a lie that mp3 quality is, more often than not, good enough, and often preferable, in the majority of situations that people encounter with regard to music.
